Assessor of Property Kelli Buchannon announces two new online resources for the Cumberland County Assessor’s office, available to the public immediately.
Through the Unlisted Bill (HB2597/SB2695), Which went into effect January 1, 2023, a property owner can request that their county Assessor label them as “unlisted” in online searchable databases.
Buchannon shares:
The right to privacy for our Cumberland County Property owners is important. At the same time, government must be transparent and keep records open. This bill balances the right to privacy of the home owner’s primary residence from internet snooping while still maintaining the integrity of open records and transparency. Anyone can still come into the Assessor’s office to request ownership information, but they will not be able to access it on the online databases if the owner has had their information suppressed.
While any Cumberland County property owner may utilize this service, we believe this will be particularly helpful for those who may be survivors of abuse, as well as law enforcement or other public servants who may wish to have their home address not so readily accessible online.
We are excited to offer these two online services to our citizens, and will continue to work hard at making more convenience features available from our office as time goes on.
