Time to Prepare For Assessment Change Notice Process is Already Here

Wow! The time to prepare for the assessment change notice process is upon us.

Historically, over the last few years, the change notices have not been mailed out until much closer to the May 20th deadline in Cumberland County, however we are striving to get those out much earlier than past years.

We wanted to make you aware of some improvements that are direct results of feedback we’ve received.

· There is now an assessment change notice specifically for personal property.

· The layout to classification under General Parcel Data section for both the real and personal property assessment change notice has been rearranged.

· The word classification located in the Values section for both the real and personal property assessment change notice has been replaced with the word subclassification to provide more clarity.

· During a reappraisal year, we will be able to add a contact email to our change notices.

Each Year, Tax Payers Only Receive a Change Notice if there has been actual changes on their value from the year before. This could mean that the field workers have picked up a new improvement, etc on real property, or possibly that a mistake has been corrected.

During non-reappraisal years, far fewer tax payers receive a change notice than during a reappraisal year when everyone’s values are readjusted to market rate. (For us, that next year is 2027)

For businesses that annually file a tangible personal property schedule, they typically always have some change and will receive a change notice.

If you receive a change notice in the coming months and have questions feel free to give us a call. Also keep in mind that these changes may have been picked up anytime in the last year and added for 2025.

Reminder: That this is not a tax bill. You will receive that in the Fall from the Trustee’s Office once the County Commission sets the tax rate.
